LOCAL: I painted an aerial of downtown Pittsburgh in oils as seen with a foregrounded Duquesne Incline, 24″ x 18″ on the post banner. Yes, you can actually pay to ride up and down it. The view is spectacular. The car moves at about 4 mph.

This was my 117th painting, my first serious oil painting of the year. I consider it a warm-up. It took three days, 24 hours. At labor 25/hr. x 24 hrs. + supplies $50 =$650. A working artist proletariat wage of $1083 a week with work 40 of the 52 weeks (it’s a struggle) making $43.3K and buying supplies, insurance, transportation, utilities or rent. Lean. That’s not my primary occupation, but I could imagine it working out somehow for someone on that tip.

Looking forward to more info on this argument.
