LOCAL: I am walking on a cloud today because I have a commission through Rivers of Steel to install a mural in my small town. I was not seeking such a project, so this is an unexpected delight. I scouted buildings, flew around the Market Street flood plain out at least 1200 feet. Today I will go recreate an 1880s photo from antiquity that is widely sold through local museums. I can alter the photo to fit the needs of the installation. The real challenge is finding a wall to place it. We have a half dozen murals in downtown proper already, some big, some small, so I have scouted neighborhoods all over town. I am going to post a clip of walls and a recent fly around the Market Street floodplain for reference.
I am using the “two rounds of feedback” method. The Planning Committee meeting was the first round, which leads to the borough City Council meeting, second round. We sell the mural again with a priority on best fit. I get a wall, so I give a work schedule, and contacts are made between interested parties. I finesse the final image, get my measurements, and it goes up as planned. That is my basic service model.
The real challenge is crafting letters, tracking building owners down and pitching them the mural, and then incorporating their feedback. They get a second round at/during install. It’s their building. Progress reports.
