LOCAL: The Labor Day Weekend seemed like it lasted a year. My fam biked both the Sheepskin and the Montour trails. Two rides in one weekend, zowie! The Montour was practically deserted in southside Pittsburgh, while the Sheepskin out in rural Fairchance was full of cyclists. I flew in Fairchance but the light was unappealing.
I sent out a letter of interest for a mural location for Rivers of Steel and my local borough, for the record, because I have had no luck so far. One does not need luck, but it is always welcome. I also applied to a “mural competition” to address the dearth of murals on the National Road.
My next painting will be my third National Road painting, not so much as an Opus as an Urkle, something bright and unusual. The road carried the adventurers, homesteaders, trappers and traders used to chart their westward futures, west to San Francisco, south along the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. I happen to live on an ancient leg of it, so it features in my landscapes. I have painted Fall and Summer. I am now moving to Spring, and this winter, I will paint Winter.
DRONE: Made the first payment on a new drone arriving in a couple of months. It’s a shame I have another DJI drone that will be banned soon. First my P3P due to FCC/FAA compliance, now due to DoD concerns which have lingered for, oh, a decade or so…right as Part 108 goes live and drones are unaffordable.
Missing schoolkid who disappeared at recess found with drones. The drones used sirens and lights to alert search parties to the child’s location. 5-year-old boy with autism found after disappearing during recess at Sto-Rox school. Find a lost person is a seriously good use of a drone.
Russia and Ukraine, always. Under a drone canopy, Ukraine army medics rely on robots and luck – eNCA.
